French bank Crédit Mutuel Arkéa said Wednesday night, Nov. 4, that it had been targeted in a cyberattack. The bank reported that criminals diverted about €100 million, equivalent to approximately 615 million Brazilian reais. The total amount has not been confirmed by the institution.

The bank said the situation is under control, operations are being restored and customers’ assets were not affected. It said that after detecting the attack, it followed its usual procedures and notified the relevant authorities and supervisory bodies.

According to Crédit Mutuel Arkéa, the perpetrators used an account belonging to the bank to make transactions with other financial institutions. The funds were then converted into cryptocurrency through specialized platforms. The bank also said the affected sums do not threaten the group’s financial health.

The incident comes days after cryptocurrency exchange Binance was hit by a theft of $6.3 billion in crypto assets, described in the report as the largest cryptocurrency theft in history. The FBI attributed that attack to a North Korean hacking group; North Korea denies the accusation.
